Oxford Brookes is currently ranked as one of the best modern universities in the UK. The University has topped the rankings for modern universities – those created since 1992 – for 11 of the past 12 years in The Sunday Times University Guide. The Guide has repeatedly praised Brookes for the quality of its teaching which no other modern university and few older institutions can match. In 2014 it was ranked 379th in the world according to the QS World University Rankings.
At the same time more than ¾ of Brookes’ research has been internationally recognized with one-third recognized as internationally excellent or world leading research – attracting over £8 million in research grants and consultancy.
The Centre for Global Politics, Economy and Society (CGPES) sits at the heart of research at Oxford Brookes within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. CGPES is an inter-disciplinary research centre which encourages reflection on and investigation into social transformations of global scope which are impacting upon the world today. The Centre provides a forum for scholars to collaborate and explore such phenomena through theory construction and empirical investigation.
The Centre’s commitment to inter-disciplinarity offers its members and affiliates excellent opportunities for contacts and networking, as well as a venue for collective reflection. Its thematic and inclusive goals permit intellectual interests that are not always accommodated in single disciplines to find a platform. The Centre is committed to the dissemination of high quality research to a wide audience, which includes the academy, policy makers, business and civil society. The Centre has particular expertise in the politics of former Soviet states, global political economy and counter terrorism.
