Prague-based Transitions (TOL) is a nonprofit organization established to cultivate and strengthen the professionalism, independence and impact of the news media in the post-communist countries of Europe and the former Soviet Union. Through a combination of journalism and media training programs, and the publication of the Transitions Online magazine, TOL actively champions democracy, pluralism, and freedom of expression.
Customised training programmes and courses offer practical communications instruction which serve to support the reenergizing of an established outlet, or the launch of a startup. From residential to distance learning, through seminars, internships and personalized mentoring; guidance and coaching are tailored to individual needs.
Originally established in 1994 through a joint venture between Radio Free Europe and the Open Society Institute in print form, Transitions online periodical was unveiled in April 1999. To this day, the publication retains an informed network of local commentators providing nuanced daily insights into events across the region’s 29 countries.
